What is the purpose of life? It is a question that crosses all of our minds. Sometimes it is the thought that wakes us up at night, other times it is the sigh of disgust as we feel that life is not going our way.
The reason that we all question the meaning of life is due to the fact that we are all unique. There is no one answer.
We are all individuals with different viewpoints, desires, dreams, goals, and ambitions.
The common denominator that we all share is that we want to live a life of happiness while living our own definition of success.
The beautiful thing about life is that it changes. We build experiences that help form our thoughts and needs as we grow to our full potential. The needs that we had as children changed once we had children; our needs change once again as we watch our children grow up and move on to build their lives.
Sometimes it is the monumental changes in life that prompt us to evaluate life. It is the evaluation process in which we ask ourselves: am I living life to the fullest.
Living life to the fullest
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did. – Mark Twain
The are no rules to living life to the fullest. There are things that we can do that add value to our lives and the lives of those we love.
One of the things that I have noticed about the media is how it crucifies our millennial generation for popularizing the idea of spending their earnings on experiences rather than material items in their pursuit of happiness.
For me, I see this logic as an expansion of Mark Twain’s thinking.
After getting married at seventeen then entering the empty nest stage of my life at 42, I can see the allure of investing in our experiences.
For Rob and I, our kids moving out was the push we needed to reevaluate our priorities. That opportunity that we needed to make sure that we are living our life to the fullest.
Identify the priorities in your life
If you are ready to make a change and make sure that you are living your life to the fullest, we welcome you.
When our children moved out, we found our need for change.
While sitting on the sideline and watching our children chase their dreams we found courage. Courage to evaluate our new purpose in life.
It was our ah-ha moment when we realized that our kids venturing out into the world was a good thing. It meant we had done our job. Our children accomplished what they were supposed to do. They left home.
Not only did they leave home, but they also started adventures of their own.
Our daughter enlisted in the airforce so that she could see the world. Our son secured a full-time job in the technical trade he trained for when earning his associate’s degree in high school.
It was the realization that while they chase their dreams, Rob and I can chase our dreams too. We can work towards the lifestyle of location independence that we crave.
It is by identifying our priorities in life that we are able to establish goals and live a life of intention.
Live your life with intention
Since the purpose of life is ever changing, ever evolving, a sure fire way of finding success is through the act of intention.
The act of intention is you making conscious decisions that will allow you to meet your goals and live your life to the fullest.
Intentional living is living with purpose. It is that desire to make sure that every moment we have on this earth counts. Living with intent is the desire to enlighten others lives as we navigate through a world of uncertainty.
When you live with intention you must visualize the life that you want to live and then establish an action plan that will allow you to live that life. When you are living with intent, life does not happen to you, you happen in life.
With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose. – Wayne Dryer
Intentional living is how you achieve success in life
When Rob and I were living paycheck to paycheck, we allowed life to happen to us. We were not prepared for anything. We floundered day to day without a purpose…a plan.
Once we decided to live our lives with intent, we took charge of our finances and decided how we could turn those dreams into our reality.
We found the focus that we needed to dig ourselves out of $50,000 worth of debt and start building a life that enjoys today while looking forward to tomorrow. It is the spirit of intent and gratitude that pushed us to formulate a plan, a strategy that promotes living our life to the fullest.
The purpose of life is to live with intent
Open up your mind and decide that you can do anything that you focus on. The great inspirational speaker Tony Robbins teaches “Where focus goes, energy flows.”
It is that powerful thought that you must put into action to ensure that your purpose in life is maximizing every moment.
If you are going to have a real dream, you need a real plan. — Chris Hogan
1. Start by dreaming
Before intent can be applied you must dream. You must envision what you want from life. This vision must include a strongly defined why. If you do not have a strong sense of your why success cannot follow.
2. Share your dream with others
By sharing your dreams with others you are entrusting them to hold you accountable. To remind you of the direction that you are headed for. The act of sharing dreams is the act of recruiting others to feel your ups and downs with you. To celebrate your wins and set you back on the right track when you fall off.
By sharing your dreams with others, you are able to formulate an action plan that converts your dream into a goal that will become your reality.
3. Celebrate your successes and your failures
That’s right…show gratitude for each hurdle you overcome. Celebrate each hurdle you face by allowing those challenges to help you reevaluate your why. The act of being thankful for each experience will help you to stay the course. To alter the course if needed.
By showing gratitude for your accomplishment through your journey of living life to the fullest you will find more and more success. Failure will appear as success; with gratatude, you will realize that you are just experiencing a learning opportunity.
Take Away: You define your purpose of life
You are the writer of your story and you are the only one that can define the purpose of life. The only limitations that you have are the limitations that you set for yourself.
You have the ability to define what your happiness is as you are the one that established the weight of importance. Importance on family and friends, experiences, or the material possessions that you gain. This is about you and you get to decide.
The key to being in touch with your dreams is acting with intent.
Visualize your dreams and block out any feelings that will hold you back. Today is the day that you start maximizing every moment that life offers you.
