Books That Will Help You Finance Your Dreams

The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness by Dave Ramsey

The Total Money Makeover book by Dave Ramsey changed our lives.  It was the right wake-up call at the right time.

You see, we were drowning in debt, yet we had the mindset that we were masters of managing money.  [Hell, with a credit score in the 800s, we were pros at borrowing money and paying bills.]

When our son went off to college, we went through the realization that we really sucked with money.  At that point, 15% of our take-home pay was going to loan payments.

Although our income levels were at their peak, our unhealthy money mindset had us living paycheck to paycheck.

It was this book that inspired us to get our act together and pay off our debt.  It was this book that sparked a mindset of abundance and helped us to pay off $50,000 in six months.

You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero

Jen Sincero spent most of her life with the mindset that money was bad.  This was this ongoing, nagging fear that if she earned money, she would be less of a person.

This way of thinking is so common.  Thing that we don’t always understand is that way of thinking sets us up for failure.  It leads to the paycheck to paycheck lifestyle that we can all fall into.

After digesting a ton of self-help information and attending spiritual retreats, Jen finally had the realization that earning a ton of money is not a bad thing.  She finally woke up, dealt with her unhealthy money mindset and started envisioning where she wants to be in life.

Her change in mindset lead to her building a successful coaching business and writing the book  You Are a Badass®: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life, which sold over three million copies and made it to #1 on the New York Times list.  Jen became the master of the Law of Attraction and started manifesting her dreams!

This success prompted her to share her success in her book:  You Are a Badass® at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth.  If you are looking for a step by step book on how to make money, then this book is not for you.

If you are ready to rethink the way that you view money and stop living paycheck to paycheck, then you have go to check this one out!

Rich Dad Poor Dad : What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! by Robert Kiyosak

Rich Dad Poor Dad is a book that I avoided for years.  The reasoning?  Well, after reading this book, my uncle decided to pull a hefty chunk of change out of his retirement accounts and venture into the business of becoming a slumlord.

The reality of his business decisions quickly set in and his venture went flat.

Just the thought of pulling money from our retirement accounts put me into a full-blown anxiety attack.  I remember that thinking that I needed to stay away from that book so that I could avoid falling victim to the same reckless thinking.

Years later, I can finally say that I recovered from his decisions and decided to give the book a try.

  • First take away:  Robert Kiyosak in no way, shape, or form tells his readers to empty their retirement accounts and buy properties.  He is not shy about his love of real estate, and he is not a big fan of the stock market, but does not lay out the master plan of pulling out retirement money.
  • Second take away:  Our money mindset is at the root of all of our financial decisions.  The way that we were raised greatly impacts our spending, saving, and investing tenancies as adults.
  • Third take away:  Don’t be afraid to try.  You will win some and you will lose some, but the only way that you can truly earn financial freedom is to work for yourself.  Don’t live to help others earn money; live to make your own wealth.
So, although the book is twenty years old, does it still have merit?  I feel it does.  For the aspiring entrepreneur, this book makes you believe that anything is possible.  Since I am a firm believer that success stems from belief, I highly recommend giving this book a try!

Books About Becoming The Best Version of You

Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins

David Goggins did not set off to be called the “Toughest Man Alive.”  He did not set off in life to be a Navy Seal.  David Goggins started in life just wanting to survive.

David Goggins life started with physical and emotional abuse by his father.  It continued into a life of poverty and having to deal with racism in a small town.

Faced with this kind of start in life, most people will have given up and blamed their lousy life on circumstances beyond their control.

Goggins, as he refers to himself, is not most people.

Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind And Defy The Odds, is a very candid account of the struggles and ultimate success of David Goggins.

This not your typical story of the power of positive thinking. It is a raw, profanity-filled,  account of the life you can lead if you only dare to face your inner weakness.

If you want to discover the power of the mind to propel you to, and past your limits, then read The story of David Goggins today.

You Are a Badass®: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

Who doesn’t want to be a badass?  I am just guessing that the list must be short.  If you have no desire to be a badass, then this book is definitely not for you.

But if you have ever thought that you were bound for some sort of greatness or you feel like you life is a bit incomplete, then this book is a must read for you!  I have listened to the book You Are A Badass® by Jen Sincero so many times, all I can is I am glad that the book is not on a cassette tape.

As a middle aged woman, this book really spoke to my desire to get out and try new things; my desire to capture the moment and make shit happen.

Jen Sincero did just that!  In her forties she finally got sick and tired of living day to day.  She got in touch with her dreams, faced her fears, and envisioned the life she wanted.  She took the woo-woo power of The Law of Attraction and began manifesting the life she loves.

If you are ready to start putting you dreams into motion, then be sure to pick up this fun read or listen to Jen read the book for you on Audible.

True freedom has to do with the human spirit-it is the freedom to be who we really are.

In the Four Agreements: A Practical Guide To Personal Freedom by don Miguel Ruiz, he offers four agreements from his ancient ancestors; the Toltec people, to help you reclaim your life.

It is not wisdom that takes years of meditation and solitude to achieve.  It is simply four keys to leading a life of mental and emotional freedom.

The Four Agreements Are:
